Guts and Glory

In a converted bath house, just off Brick Lane, in the heart of London's east end lays Repton Boxing Club. Over the years it has bred champions and been second home to the notorious Kray brothers. But it has primarily been a place where local youth can find a purpose and self-respect. Boxing has thru out the years proved to be a good way of keeping young people off the street, they become more self-disciplined and get a different view on life.

The club was founded by Repton College in Derbyshire as an east London mission for unprivileged boys. When the college withdrew its support in 1971 it turned into a pure boxing club. Since then Repton has become one of the best amateur clubs in the world. The hall looks pretty much the same as it did in the 1950's with the walls plastered with old fight bills. In one of the corners there is a sign with big letters explaining the quite simple philosophy of the club; “No Guts, No Glory”.
